Nina Petrik

I was born 1972 in Vienna and first started a “classic” career as a psychologist/psychotherapist. Always calling these professions “last bastions of creative people who can’t draw” I had to admit, that beeing a creative psychologist was not enough for me. So I attended the University of Applied Art and started to study ceramics.
Today I can say: I am artist and I am psychotherapist, I could not be one without the other.
My art is influenced by the shadows of human existence but my personal nature tends to give those shadows a winking eye. The “memento mori” (remember, that you will die) intrigues me as an exclamation-mark not to forget to live. Under the point of view, that all existence vanishes, greed, brutality, dominance, envy, hatred get an ironic touch. To remember that all material and non material things one day will perish, can either paralyse you or make you appreciate the moment even more. I hope, if you see my artwork, you will see the big love I feel for life, for humans and their struggling
